Ark

The Ark

There are three 'Arks' in Scripture.

Noah's Ark

The Ark of the Covenant/Testimony

Papyrus Basket of Moses

All three are associated with man being saved by Gods mercy.

Noahs Ark

Gen 6:14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. 15 And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. 16 You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. NKJV

Noah’s Ark is defined as a box, a place for gathering. The flood represents death to anyone who denies, or turn away from God. In the story it's two of every animal which represent people, nations, and languages. Many question whether Noah's Ark is buried in the mountains of the middle east. Trusting Gods word, the ark represents a place of refuge through a catastrophe of Godly proportions.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, 19 through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison 20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also — not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand — with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him. NIV

Jesus was obedient to the point of death, by taking the sin of the world on himself. By his act of baptism, fulfilling the foreshadow of Moses, he was plucked from the waters of destruction reserved for those who refused to turn to the God of Heaven and Earth. Taken to the New Jerusalem, he now sits in the presence of his father.

Matt 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" 15 Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.

16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." NIV

Acts 17:31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by
raising him from the dead." NIV

Ark: OT:8392 tebah (tay-baw'); perhaps of foreign derivation; a box:

OT:1613 gopher (go'-fer); from an unused root, probably meaning to house in; a kind of tree or wood (as used for building), apparently the cypress:

Ark of the Covenant/ Testimony

More details on the Ark of the covenant,

Ex 25:10 "And they shall make an ark of acacia wood; two and a half cubits shall be its length, a cubit and a half its width, and a cubit and a half its height. NKJV

The Hebrew word for Ark is a box, for gathering, or to 'pluck' something, as from water. Just as Noah’s Ark, the Ark of the Covenant/Testimony is a description of those who are saved by entering into a covenant with the Lord. Jesus used the parable of fish that will be separated, like the sheep from the goats. Genesis

Matt 13:47 "Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. NIV

Ark (of the covenant) OT:727 'arown (aw-rone'); from OT:717 (in the sense of gathering); a box:

OT:717 'arah (aw-raw'); a primitive root; to pluck

Papyrus basket of Moses

Ex 2:1 Now a man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman, 2 and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. 3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. NIV

Ex 2:10 When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, "I drew him out of the water." NIV

In Hebrew, Moses means to be saved from the waters of Egypt (of destruction). Moses was a shadow of the Messiah being saved through water baptism, being plucked from the waters of destruction.

Moses: OT:4872 Mosheh (mo-sheh'); from OT:4871; drawing out (of the water), i.e. rescued; Mosheh, the Israelite lawgiver:
