Feast of Weeks/Pentecost

Feast of Weeks/Pentecost

Joel 2:28 'And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. NIV

The story of creation in Genesis one, points to God pouring out his spirit on all mankind. The process of being born of the Spirit. God gave his seed as a deposit. We are a new creation, a spiritual child of God.

Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. NIV

2 Cor 1:21He anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts

as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. NIV

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone,

the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself

through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: NIV

The Shadow

Fifty days after the Passover lamb was slain, bringing Israel’s redemption and deliverance, God came down in a cloud, giving the ten commandments on Mt Sinai.

Ex 19:1 In the third month after the Israelites left Egypt — on the very day — they came to the Desert of Sinai. 2 After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain. NIV

Ex 19:10 And the Lord said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes 11 and be ready by the third day, because on that day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people… NIV

Ex 19:16 On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled. 17 Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the whole mountain trembled violently, 19 and the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder.

Gods fulfillment

Fifty days after the Lamb of God was sacrificed on Passover, the Holy Spirit was given. The term ‘Pentecost’ comes from the Greek for ‘Fifty.’ Pointing to the Hebrew Festival of weeks.

Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

The commandment The Leaven represents the Messiah taking the sin on himself. All pointing to the Cross, Redemption, and the giving of the Holy Spirit.

Two loaves to cover the two covenants. One loaf for the Jews, one for the Gentiles.

Lev 23:15 'And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. 16 Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to the Lord. 17 You shall bring from your dwellings two wave loaves of two-tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven. They are the firstfruits to the Lord. NKJV

Ex 34:22 "Celebrate the Feast of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest,

and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year. NIV
